A hearty and delicious family-style cheesesteak sandwich that brings everyone together. This recipe combines tender slices of beef, melty cheese, and sautéed onions and peppers served on a crusty roll. Perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings, this dish is rich, savory, and easy to customize for all tastes.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ribeye, sirloin, or top round (thinly sliced)

  • 1–2 cups provolone, American, or Cheez Whiz (or 1–2 cans Cheez Whiz)

  • 1 large onion, sliced and sautéed until caramelized

  • 2 large bell peppers, sliced and sautéed until tender

  • 4 Italian or Amoroso hoagie rolls

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Cooking oil (for sautéing)

Optional toppings: hot sauce, ketchup, or sliced jalapeños

Instructions

  • Prepare the ingredients: Slice beef thinly (freeze for 30 mins first for easier slicing). Slice onions and bell peppers.

  • Sauté vegetables: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and bell peppers; cook 5–7 minutes until tender and lightly browned. Remove from pan.

  • Cook the beef: Increase heat, add beef, and cook until browned and juicy. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Melt the cheese: Place cheese slices or Cheez Whiz on top of the cooked beef and let it melt.

  • Assemble sandwiches: Toast the rolls lightly to prevent sogginess. Layer beef, onions, and peppers. Add more melted cheese on top.

  • Serve family-style: Arrange on a large platter or board for sharing. Garnish with parsley or chives if desired.

Notes

  • For a family-style twist, layer the ingredients in a big dish instead of individual rolls.

  • To prevent soggy bread, always toast or grill the rolls before filling.

  • Try a make-your-own cheesesteak bar so everyone can customize their sandwich with different cheeses and toppings.
